SPS Northgate Elementary Artists at Work: Day 1 - Introducing the Concept and Jumping Right In to Artmaking!

Project Background

An idea that came to life! Margaret Balderama, a family support worker at Northgate Elementary, wondered what would happen if youth made art about skin color and race. Her idea grew into an artistic collaboration with Mr. Stowell and his 4th/5th grade class. The art produced was submitted to the selection committee at the Wing Luke Museum for the exhibition Under My Skin. Our piece was accepted! Mikala Woodward,

Exhibits Developer | YouthCAN Manager,introduced Yeshodara Menon Fisher and Anupama Singh to us, who present their program at the Wing, Bridges Dialoguing Differences. Yesh and Anu deepened the students' understanding of themselves and their own art through a series of Bridges workshops with the students at Northgate Elementary. This is a record of our journey.
